Superbuy shipping: how it's priced, which line to pick, and whether Shipping Expert is worth it

Quick answer: Superbuy charges shipping by weight step: an expensive first step (CN¥320 for 500 g on its UPS Economy example), cheap extra steps (CN¥50 each) and sometimes a clearance fee. That makes consolidation the biggest saving. Compare a tax-inclusive line with a courier line on total cost, and declare the true value.

The pricing formula with a worked chart, the three kinds of line, the two things called "Shipping Expert", packing options that cut the bill, tracking and declared value.

How is Superbuy shipping priced?

Every Superbuy line is priced the same way: a charge for the first weight step (often 500 g), a smaller charge for each additional step, and on some lines a customs clearance fee, fuel surcharge or operation fee. Superbuy's own example on the Hong Kong UPS Economy (tax-free) line is CN¥320 for the first 500 g, CN¥50 for each further 500 g and a CN¥38 clearance fee. Plotting that shows why consolidating is the single biggest saving available:

Built from Superbuy's published UPS Economy example (freight plus CN¥38 clearance). Cost per kilo falls from about CN¥716 at 0.5 kg to about CN¥203 at 3 kg. Your line's numbers will differ; the shape usually won't.

Two more rules shape the bill. Bulky parcels are charged on volume weight when it's higher than actual weight, which is why coats and boxed shoes cost more than their weight suggests. And shipping is charged up front on an estimated weight, then settled against the carrier's final bill: Superbuy refunds any overpayment or collects the shortfall.

Verdict: the first 500 g is the expensive part. Ship once with everything, not three times as items arrive.

How do you calculate Superbuy shipping costs?

Use Superbuy's shipping calculator with your destination and an estimated weight, and it lists each available line with its price. To add duty and VAT on top, use our shipping and duty calculator. To sanity-check a quote by hand:

Cost = first-step price + (number of extra steps × step price) + clearance fee + any fuel or operation surcharge.

For a 2 kg parcel on the example line: CN¥320 + (3 × CN¥50) + CN¥38 = CN¥508. To estimate weight before items arrive, add up rough packed weights (a hoodie is about 0.6–1.0 kg, a boxed pair of trainers 1.0–1.6 kg; our finds catalog lists ranges by category), then add a little for the outer box.

Which Superbuy shipping line is best?

There's no single best line; it depends on country, weight and how you want duty handled. The calculator shows the lines open to your address. They fall into three groups:

Superbuy line types compared
Line typeSpeedPriceDuty and tax
Courier (DHL, UPS, FedEx)FastestHighestUsually billed on delivery unless the line says otherwise
Tax-inclusive / "tax-free" linesMedium to slowMediumClearance included in the price, so no bill at the door
Postal and economy linesSlowestLowest per kiloVaries by destination; tracking can go quiet mid-route
Verdict: for US and EU addresses in 2026, compare one tax-inclusive line against one courier line on total landed cost. Duty rules changed a lot; see our Superbuy tariffs page.

Is Superbuy Shipping Expert worth it?

First, clear up a naming muddle. Superbuy's fee page uses "Shipping Expert" for a 10% purchasing service on special items such as pre-sales and limited editions (CN¥20 minimum, CN¥300 maximum). Separately, Superbuy's shipping menu offers a "Shipping Expert" service for choosing how to send a parcel. Buyers who've used the second one describe getting recommended options ranked as best overall, fastest or cheapest, and creators have posted examples of quotes dropping after using it. It's a paid service, and the charge is shown before you confirm.

Whether it pays off depends on the parcel. For a standard 2–3 kg clothing haul, running the calculator yourself and comparing two or three lines gets you most of the way for free. For heavy, oddly shaped, fragile or mixed parcels, or awkward destinations, a human looking at packing and routing is more likely to find a saving larger than the fee.

Verdict: worth trying on big or awkward parcels; usually unnecessary on a normal clothing haul.

Which packing options actually lower the bill?

  • Package removal (free): strips excess retail packaging.
  • Simple packaging (free): bags non-fragile items instead of boxing them.
  • Vacuum packaging (CN¥17): compresses clothing, the best fix for volume weight.
  • Folding shoe box (CN¥5): flattens shoe boxes; expect creases.
  • Split order (CN¥2): separates a battery or liquid so the rest isn't blocked.

How does Superbuy parcel tracking work?

Once the carrier accepts your parcel, a tracking number appears on the parcel page and Superbuy's parcel tracking tool. Early scans can take a few days to show while the parcel moves to the export hub. "Destination customs clearance in progress" means the parcel has landed and is being assessed; on courier lines, any duty bill usually comes by email or text from the carrier at this stage. If tracking hasn't moved for longer than the line's estimated window, message Superbuy support with the parcel ID.

The full list of packing extras, from free package removal to the CN¥250 wooden case, with what each is for, is on the Superbuy packaging page.

How much should you declare on a Superbuy parcel?

The truthful value of what's inside. Duty and VAT are calculated on it, and customs in the US and EU have been checking low-value parcels more closely since 2025. Under-declaring is the most common reason parcels get held or re-assessed, and it can undermine a compensation claim if the parcel is lost, because compensation is normally tied to declared value.

Five Superbuy shipping mistakes that cost the most

  1. Shipping items as they arrive. Each separate parcel pays the expensive first weight step again.
  2. Ignoring volume weight. Boxed shoes and puffy coats are charged on size; free packaging removal and CN¥17 vacuum packing exist for this.
  3. Choosing on speed alone. A courier's headline price doesn't include duty billed on delivery. Compare total landed cost.
  4. Under-declaring. Held parcels, re-valuation and weaker compensation claims cost more than the duty saved.
  5. Shipping in late January. Chinese New Year slows warehouses and carriers for weeks; ship before or after.

What if a Superbuy parcel is lost or damaged?

Superbuy's Help Center has an Insurance and Compensation section covering what's paid out when a parcel is lost or damaged in transit, and parcel insurance can be added when you submit a parcel. Compensation is normally tied to the declared value, which is one more reason to declare truthfully. Keep the QC photos and the packing video if you bought one (CN¥5); they're your evidence of what left the warehouse and in what condition.

Superbuy shipping FAQ

How do I calculate Superbuy shipping costs?

Enter your destination and an estimated weight in Superbuy's shipping calculator to see every available line with its price. To check a quote by hand, add the first-step price, the extra steps times the step price, and any clearance fee or surcharge. On Superbuy's UPS Economy example a 2 kg parcel is CN¥320 + 3 × CN¥50 + CN¥38 = CN¥508. Always compare two or three lines.

Is Superbuy Shipping Expert worth it?

Mind the name first: Superbuy's fee page uses 'Shipping Expert' for a 10% service on special items like pre-sales (CN¥20 to CN¥300), while a separate paid Shipping Expert option in the shipping menu recommends lines, with its charge shown before you confirm. That one can pay off on heavy, fragile, mixed or oddly shaped parcels. For a normal 2–3 kg clothing haul, compare lines yourself.

How long does Superbuy shipping take?

It depends on the line. Couriers such as DHL, UPS and FedEx are fastest and dearest, tax-inclusive lines are medium to slow, and postal or economy lines are slowest but cheapest per kilo. Superbuy's calculator shows an estimated delivery window for each option. Allow extra weeks around Chinese New Year, and avoid submitting parcels in late January if timing matters.

What does "destination customs clearance in progress" mean on Superbuy?

Your parcel has landed in the destination country and customs is assessing it. On courier lines, any duty or tax bill usually reaches you from the carrier by email or text at this stage, while tax-inclusive lines already include it in the shipping price. If tracking stays stuck longer than the line's estimated window, message Superbuy support with your parcel ID.

How can I lower my Superbuy shipping bill?

Ship once with everything, because the first weight step is the expensive part: on the UPS Economy example, cost per kilo drops from about CN¥716 at 0.5 kg to about CN¥203 at 3 kg. Use free package removal and simple packaging, add CN¥17 vacuum packing for bulky clothing, and compare lines on total landed cost. Consolidation is the biggest single saving.
